Porsche Wraps Up Web3 “Long Haul” Project in Under Four Years

Porsche has officially wrapped up its Web3 initiative and the “Pioneers Circle” community project, nearly four years after launching its Porsche 911 NFT collection. In an announcement posted on X, the automaker said it is concluding the Porsche Web3 project while leaving the NFTs with their current holders and continuing to exist on-chain.

According to Porsche, the program has moved beyond its original technology focus, eventually incorporating community events and broader online and offline activity. Going forward, Porsche said it will shift the Discord server for Pioneers Circle into a read-only archive and stop actively updating its X account for the project.

Key takeaways

  • Porsche is ending both its Web3 project and the Pioneers Circle community nearly four years after its Porsche 911 NFT launch.

  • The Porsche 911 NFTs will remain on-chain for existing holders; the company is not taking them offline.

  • Pioneers Circle’s Discord will become read-only, signaling no further community engagement through that channel.

  • Porsche halted NFT minting earlier than planned after complaints about pricing and limited utility.

  • Trading volume has fallen sharply, according to OpenSea analytics.

What Porsche is shutting down

Porsche’s announcement framed the decision as a formal end to its Web3 effort and community program. The company said the initiative began with a technology-oriented plan but expanded to include community gatherings and additional activities both online and offline.

While Porsche is winding down active operations, it emphasized that token ownership will not be disrupted. The automaker said the Porsche 911 NFTs will continue to exist on-chain and remain with their holders. It also indicated that the project’s Discord server will transition into an archive, rather than an active discussion space.

In practical terms, investors and collectors will likely see fewer project signals going forward. Porsche also said it will stop actively updating its X account for the Web3 effort, further reducing official communications connected to the NFTs and the surrounding community.

NFT supply, launch complications, and the minting halt

Porsche 911 NFTs launched in January 2023 with a planned supply of 7,500 tokens. However, Porsche halted minting after receiving complaints from the community, including concerns about the pricing and what buyers perceived as insufficient utility.

The result was a significantly smaller circulating supply than originally intended: minting stopped at 2,363 NFTs. The mismatch between planned and issued supply is a key part of the project’s story, because it shaped how the collection would ultimately perform and how scarcity expectations formed during and after the minting period.

Earlier coverage from Cointelegraph noted that trading activity continued despite issues around the launch, including a minting halt. (For context, Cointelegraph reported that trading volume neared $5 million even though minting was paused; see this earlier Cointelegraph piece.)

From “long haul” ambition to reduced activity

When Porsche first disclosed its Web3 direction in 2022, executives described the commitment as long-term. In coverage tied to Porsche’s initial entry into “virtual worlds,” the company cited potential use cases ranging from metaverse experiences to purchasing journeys and supply-chain applications. (See Porsche’s announcement here.)

Yet the later decision to conclude the project suggests that Porsche either did not find a scalable path for those planned applications, or that the economics and engagement levels did not justify continued investment on an ongoing basis.

Trading volume shows a sharp drop-off

Even after Porsche completed the launch phase, market activity for the NFTs has cooled substantially. According to OpenSea analytics, the collection has generated roughly $20 million in all-time trading volume. But more recent activity has been minimal compared with its early period.

OpenSea data indicates approximately $38,000 in trading volume over the past year and only about $2,900 over the past month. Those figures don’t necessarily indicate whether specific tokens are rare or whether holders remain committed—but they do reflect that day-to-day buyer interest has declined.

This kind of long-term drop is common with many NFT collections once the initial marketing cycle fades. However, Porsche’s decision to formally stop community operations underlines that the company chose not to continue building around its NFT ecosystem.

What happens to collectors and community members next

Porsche said its NFTs will stay on-chain for current holders, and the tokens will continue to exist. For collectors, that matters because it means the fundamental asset remains transferable in the ecosystem where it was originally issued and is not being “burned” or otherwise removed by the company.

Meanwhile, the shift to a read-only Discord archive signals an end to active community programming under the Pioneers Circle brand. Without ongoing official updates, the collection’s next phase is likely to depend more heavily on external community initiatives rather than corporate-led engagement.

Because Porsche also stated it will stop actively updating the project’s X account, observers should expect fewer official announcements, event promotions, or roadmap signals going forward. That could further influence how new buyers evaluate the collection—especially if future development depends on participation by the broader community.

Next, holders and potential buyers should watch for any remaining third-party activity around the Porsche 911 NFTs—particularly changes in liquidity, marketplace listings, and community-led events—since Porsche’s own operational role appears to have ended. The key uncertainty now is not whether the NFTs remain on-chain, but whether meaningful engagement can persist without the company’s active support.
